In our image-driven culture, advancements in photographic technology have reshaped how images are defined, created, shared and experienced.

‘Transmutation’ explores how designers can use emerging tools to reimagine images across physical and digital dimensions. This process emphasizes tangible interactions and immersive experiences by leveraging new methods to capture, transform and re-materialize imagery.

Practice [01]Use 3d scanning to document my daily life.

It started with a question: Do default tools limit our imagination? What tool we use today to capture an image and what new tools we can use for image making?

[a] 3D Scanning by 3D Scanning App

[b] 3D Scanning by Touchdesigner[c] Image in 3D Point Cloud by P5js

[d] A shared 3D album
As image capture tools evolve, the concept of the photo album will transform as well. In this shared space, people can upload scanned images, collaboratively creating a collective memory environment.

Practice [02] Print a 3D Poster

It started with a question: Do designers always have to print images with ink? Can 3D printers replace inkjet printers to create new forms of graphic creation?

Step [01] Generative 3D Typeface

Step [02] Generate and Print Image in 3D Pixels

How can we reimagine future photographyer?

As AI continues to evolve, many traditional photography tools and roles are changing. Will the role of the photographer be entirely replaced by machines in the future? Here, I explore how to train an AI model to create a personalized machine photographer.
