Chinese New Year was the first visual system I ever encountered.
It’s a world steeped in fiery red—paper-cuts, firecrackers, lanterns, and red envelopes. Together, these colors, shapes, patterns, and warmth create what we call the “spirit of the New Year.” Similar “systems,” like Christmas, shape each person’s childhood with their own visual languages, always symbolizing love and hope. This may be why I find visual design so captivating—it is a powerful vessel that can spark conversations, touch hearts, and influence generations. This vessel holds both our shared hopes and individual memories, experiences, and dreams.
As a designer, I hope to fill it over time, weaving together collective meaning with my own personal stories.
